Halal meat in Melbourne

Compared to when I was studying in Melbourne 1999 -2001, it is now much easier to find halal meat in Melbourne.

However, despite the many shops, this is still my favourite one..
The halal sausages are cheap and yummy.
Chicken wing are also very cheap. It used to be AUD1.99/kg when I was a student, and when I visited in 2014 it was still very cheap compared to its neighbouring shops.

It is located in Brunswick market in Sydney Road..just near to Cookies Chicken
You can take tram 19 which goes along Sydney Road.  Get off when you see IGA on the right.

Malaysian food at Harbourtown Melbourne

Was shopping in Harbourtown Melbourne during my last visit early 2014.

Hungry and craving for Malaysian food, so decided to try Cilipadi.
My friend works at the restaurant branch in Melbourne Central.
Heard that this company has many outlets in Melbourne, so was curious to try it out.

The cashier was very efficient and chatty.

I ordered vegetarian Char Koay Teow coz its cheaper, but the place has halal supplies for its meat, if you want any non-veg items.

I don't know whether its because I ordered the vegetarian option, was surprised to see Char Koay Teow here has broccoli, carrot.
Absolutely unnecessary as all Char Koay Teow needs is taugeh (bean sprouts), and kuchai.

But the size was really big that I was struggling to finish it.
Can't remember how much I paid it for, I think it was around AUD 8-9.

Probably will try other options next time I am in Melbourne.  Heard their sister company, the Indian food outlet, is better.

Halal Food Melbourne: Cookies Chicken in Brunswick

Came across this takeaway store in Sydney Road, Brunswick, during my recent trip to Melbourne.
I use to frequent this shop last time as a student as their roast chicken had very nice char-grilled skin and stuffing.
Always stop by to take away, and also to check out the Correlle factory outlet there.
Now the Correlle Outlet has moved, and the roast chicken takeaway has changed owner from the previous Turkish uncle.

It was a pleasant surprise to know that it has now been taken over by a Malaysian family, and re-named it Cookies Chicken.
They still serve Roast Chicken, but have added in other menu items like kebab, burger, salad, lamb, rice etc.

The price of course has increased since year 2001. I used to by quarter chicken and chips for AUD3.50.
Now its AUD6.50.
The chips has a sprinkle of chicken flavoured salt that is commonly used in OZ.
And the stuffing is onion and herbs.

Still taste good, just not as sticky as it used to be.

So if you happen to travel to Melbourne, or happen to be in Brunswick to buy halal poultry, do pop by and get a takeaway from Cookies Chicken. The store is near Domino's, opposite row from IGA.

Note: This is not a paid posting, just writing to share with fellow Muslims/Malaysians.

Welcome to Halal Food Melbourne

I will be going back to Melbourne after 9 years away...Yay!

I am making it one of my mission to explore the halal food scene in Melbourne.  Hopefully this blog will be a useful reference to all Muslim visitors, and international students coming to Melbourne.

Look out for my posts soon.
